A yatra day with Madhuban
Most yatris start early and come back tired and hungry. Here is how we fit in.
- Breakfast before you climb
Hot parathas, poha and chai from opening time. Ask for a trek parcel to carry up the 13 km path.
- Carry your RFID Yatra Card
It is free and mandatory, and it is checked at Banganga. Get it from the Shrine Board counters or online.
- A thali when you are back
Dal, sabzi, rotis and rice. Or the veg biryani and chaap that reviewers love.
- Onward on the Vande Bharat
Katra to Srinagar now takes about 3 hours. We will pack you something for the train.

The trek
About 13 km from Katra to Bhawan, via Banganga and Ardhkuwari. Bhairon temple is about 1.5 km beyond Bhawan.
RFID Yatra Card
Free and mandatory for every yatri. Its validity window changes, so check the latest rules on the official site.
Helicopter
Flights run from Katra to Sanjichhat, not to Bhawan. Book only on the Shrine Board's official portal.
Battery cars
They run on the upper stretch and can be booked online. Useful for elderly yatris.
Getting here
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra station has trains from across India, and Vande Bharat on to Srinagar.
Weather
The yatra can be paused for rain or landslides. Navratri brings the biggest crowds.

One of the best places to eat in Katra. The interiors are pleasant and give a warm feeling. Most importantly the satvik food is very good, specially the veg biryani and chaap.
We had dal tadka, aloo jeera and pineapple raita. All the items were fresh and very tasty. The masala chaach was very refreshing, and the staff were very polite.
If you visit Katra, don't miss the lovely and delicious food at this restaurant. A pure veg restaurant with good ambience and staff. Divine food. Must visit.
